Digital Picture Protection

My sister-in-law just lost valuable photos that were stored on her computers hard drive which crashed. She was able to retrieve some of the files of pictures but not all of them. She is sick about it. My husband and I have been talking about an external hard drive to keep those important pictures and documents. I have looked up a few of the online storage services and they all vary. You need to read all their terms and decide if it is for you. I know that I made some prints and books with snapfish last year and those photos are still safely stored on their site. I found a site, savemymemories.com, that talks about keeping your photos safe and all the steps for it as well as recovery. Check it out if you would like more information

I thought I had posted this link last month but as I was looking for it I couldn't find it. Marcia Lynn McClure is an author of clean romances and I am hooked on how she writes a moment and a kiss. My husband wanted to know if he was being replaced and I told him that it was because of him that these books are so good to me, and it is the truth. Saving Your Money One Way or Another

I found this posting and couldn't believe it. I went to the Real simple website and sure enough the story is there. I broke the door to my dishwasher, walking around in the dark on night, so let me know if you try this and how it works.

You know all those lime stains that build up in your dishwasher? Have you bought those cleaners at the store for $4-$5 a bottle? Sure, they do the trick....but, there is a less expensive way to clean your dishwasher...save those pennies and do it the frugal way!

Yes, you are seeing correctly....lemonade Kool-Aid! Real Simple magazine says that the citric acid in the Kool-Aid is a pro at wiping out stains. You put the packet into your dishwasher soap dispenser in an empty dishwasher. Run through a cycle. And whalla!! For a whopping 10 cents you can have a stain-free dishwasher! Oh, and lemonade Kool-Aid is the only flavor of Kool-Aid that works. :)

Granted, it doesn't clean it perfectly but it does do a mighty fine job at wiping out stains. Try it! It works for me.

Shopping Without a Coupon

Yesterday Ginger, Stacy, and I were out and Stacy needed to get her daughter a birthday gift. She had decided to get her the Nintendo DS she has been wanting. We went into Best Buy. I happen to know that they may be able to cut you a deal on some items, especially when you are buying accessories to go along with your bigger items. They really don't make money on gaming systems so don't even expect anything off there and games do not have a high mark up but the accessories are where you can get your deals. She was able to save just about enough to pay for the two year warranty and lets face it if kids are involved the warranty is a great deal.
The same hold true if your in the market for a TV or computer, ask for a discount on your cords and other accessories. I saw in a Best Buy commercial that they price match other stores. Life is full of discounts don't be afraid to ask for them.
No, Best Buy isn't paying me. Not even my husband anymore!

Utah Arts Festival

Looking for something to dothis weekend?

The Utah Arts Festival begins tomorrow, 6/25 and is a true celebration of the arts! This year's festival includes music, dance, and readings on five stages, the Art Attack 5K Fun Run and 1K run (Saturday morning), street theater performances, fine arts in the Artist Marketplace, an Urban Arts area for teens, a Children's Art Yard with hands-on art projects for kids ages four to 12, and a Toddler Zone for kids ages four and under. Go here for detailed information about the festival! Festival runs through 6/28, noon-11pm each day.

Regular admission is $10 for adults, $5 for seniors & kids 12 and under are free. However, there are a couple ways to save some $$ on admission!

Colorado Firm Recalls Ground Beef Products

On the morning news I heard this story and thought it would be a good one to share.

WASHINGTON, June 24, 2009 - JBS Swift Beef Company, a Greeley, Colo., establishment is recalling approximately 41,280 pounds of beef products that may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

Making Pita Bread

So yesterday morning as my friend, Ginger, and I were walking the subject of lunch came up. Not a huge stretch of conversation topic since we both love food. But we were complaining about how our lunch choices were not so good, my Monday lunch was a piece of bread with peanut butter spread across the top and a Coke. My eight year old who can be picky isn't the biggest fan of sandwiches had enjoyed a slice of Challah bread with butter. I debated with her that at least peanut butter had some protein and butter just had fat. Her reply was, 'Well look, I'm skinny'. I just rolled my eyes and spread some butter on her bread.
My favorite meal to eat out is lunch. Probably because I'm with girlfriends but also because I love flavorful food. I really don't put a whole lot of thought into lunch meals at my home. After my conversation with Ginger I knew I had to make a change. I found this great recipe for Homemade Pita Pockets on the Money Saving Mom blog and thought I haven't tried to make anything new in a while. The dough does need to rise a for a while but it was easy and they turned out so good. I didn't have them ready in time for lunch so we enjoyed a tuna sandwich in them for dinner with carrots. My picky eight year old suddenly liked having a sandwich inside of a pocket! Yeah, this is a happy Mom. I'm thinking stuffing them with cheesy scrambled eggs for breakfast sounds good too.
What I'm getting at is try to make something new from scratch and save money that way. I will make the pita bread, which costs pennies to make, now on a regular basis. I am wanting to learn to make tortillas soon, we go through a bit of them at our house.
