Did You Get Your Basket?

Bountiful Baskets had so many hits that the ladies could not get the site up at noon and then we all saw several other glitches. As we all know each week we sell out of baskets which causes a frenzy on Mondays at noon. This is what caused today's problem. The Hyrum site did bump up too 142 baskets and yes they sold out just as fast as the 110 use to sell out. Check to see if there is an alternate site you would like to pick up your basket at if your usual site is sold out.

Remember Sally and Tanya, who started up this service and still run it, are volunteers just like those of us who are there on Saturdays. They put a lot of time and energy into giving us our great produce at such an amazing price.

Thanks Sally & Tanya!

Kmart Doubles in Utah?

Utah Deal Diva has the following post on her site. I wanted to share it will everyone and let"s cross our fingers that we do get to double our coupons!
I'm sure some of you have heard that Kmart is again doubling coupons next month, starting 4/4. Word from corporate so far is that all Utah stores are participating. However, instead of getting excited and saving coupons for this specific event, I encourage you all to wait. Wait until our ads actually say that we are participating, because we went through this several times last year. It was all very confusing- corporate repeatedly told people that our Utah stores were participating, yet stores clearly weren't! Lots of shoppers arrived with fistfuls of coupons only to be disappointed minutes later.

So why don't Utah stores double coupons? Across the nation, about 1% of coupons that are released are actually redeemed. In Utah, that number is tripled to 3%. Simply put, lots of Utahans use coupons! Thus, when stores double coupons here in Utah, so many participate in the event, stores and manufacturers lose an incredible amount of money.

However, this time, Kmart has set a 5 coupon per day per customer limit. Last year, this limit didn't exist. Maybe this is their attempt to minimize the potential chaos? We'll see. Again, I'm not holding my breath, but I'll keep you all posted over the course of the next few weeks. Heavens knows I'd love to see doubles again!

New Kraft/ P&G Coupon Booklet!

Go HERE and enter your zip code to see if you qualify for a coupon booklet from SuperValu. Here in Utah, SuperValu owns the Albertson's stores, as well as the discount grocer, Super Saver. I entered my zip and was able to request the booklet! I'm not sure if they're manufacturers coupons or store coupons just yet as the coupons will come via snail mail.

If you do qualify, click on one of the “Solution and Ideas” boxes and then click on the the orange box in the upper right hand corner that states “Click Here to Save”. You’ll then be able to fill out the form provided to request $20 worth of P&G and Kraft foods coupons.

Thanks Hip2Save and Utah Deal Diva!

Wendy DeWitt -- Food Storage Seminar

My friend Kristy went to her Stake Women's Conference and she learned a very cool technique for canning using your Food Saver with the jar sealer attachment. I have found the link for you to watch Wendy DeWitt and what she has learned through experience on canning chocolate and other items. Click HERE for the link. Video 8 has the info on the Food Saver System, but there is a lot of good information that she shares in all of her videos.
Wendy has a couple of blogs you can check out:
Let Us Prepare
Everything Under the Sun

Vacuum sealing foods: Many foods with high oil or high sugar contents cannot be stored in #10 cans because of the interaction with the metal (Chocolate chips, nuts and raisins for example). You can significantly increase the shelf life of your foods by placing them in mason jars and using a Food Saver and a Jar Sealer attachment to vacuum the air out of the jars. Put your ingredients in a mason jar, put a lid on the jar, place the jar sealer attachment over the lid and start the machine. If a jar won’t seal, try placing one lid down and one facing up or heating the lid in boiling water. The jar can be opened and resealed over and over. If you take the lids off carefully, they can be reused indefinitely. You can seal nuts, raisins, chocolate chips, brown rice, cornmeal, candy bars, egg noodles, poppy seeds, dried apricots, malt-o-meal, cookies, granola bars...just about anything in the pantry. Shelf life should be 3 years or more if you keep the foods cool. Remember, the warmer the temperature, the shorter the shelf life.
You cannot vacuum seal foods that need refrigeration…only foods that sit on your pantry shelves.
Don’t vacuum fine powders….they gum up the works of your machine. If you want to seal powders, put a plastic or zip lock bag in your jar, fill the bag, express the air, zip lock it then vacuum seal.
A new Food Saver can be expensive. Used ones are easy to find online and are very inexpensive. Just be sure it has the port hole on top of the machine where the jar sealer attaches. Jar Sealer attachments come in regular and wide mouth.
