Click here to for more printable coupons. With back to school shopping those convenience items for the lunch box are needed too. There are yogurt cups, granola and chex mix bars, and many other items. I'm not sure if this site changes at the end of the month like coupons.com so you may want to print the items you need today.
Beans, Beans, Beans
Do you cook with beans regularly? Do you know that they are a great way to stretch your families food budget? Are you aware of their protein content especially when mixed with grains?
I attended a bean class put on by the Nibley Stake back in May given by a woman, Shawna Johnson, who very regularly uses beans in her families diet. It was full of good information and they had a sample table of dishes made with beans or vegetable purees. I must say I was pleasantly surprised by their great taste. My eight year old was with me and she liked most of the dishes as well.
Click here for a direct link to more information about that class with details on preparing beans and the many recipes they shared with us. One of our personal favorite was the peanut butter and jelly muffins. Most kids love peanut butter so you can sneak some carrot nutrition in them at the same time. Enjoy and let me know if you have any recipes you'd like to share with us or if your family even noticed the extra protein or veggies you got in them.

Woman cited for gathering coupons
July 30th, 2009 @ 1:05pm
By Randall Jeppesen
OREM -- An Orem woman has been cited after going too far to get grocery store coupons.
Police were called to approximately 300 West and 100 South in Orem after a woman was seen going through various mailboxes.
A witness wrote down the woman's license plate and called police. Officers tracked it to a 28-year-old.
At her home, police say they found she had a large stack of ads and coupons along with mail from various locations.
The woman told police she was after the Albertsons double coupon ads.
She was cited for theft.
It's kinda sad, I hope there is a CA, coupons anonymous, group for her to participate in.

Double Coupon Basics
Albertson's double coupons, 0r "Twice the Value" coupons are valid on any manufacturer coupon up to $1 in value. When double coupons come out, it's one of the rare instances where you can actually use 2 coupons on item.
There were 3 doubles in yesterday's Herald Journal on page A7, so you'll be allowed to use all 3 in one transaction.
Since the coupon states "three double coupons per transaction per shopping trip" most stores do require you to either go to your car and put your groceries away before doing a subsequent transaction. However, I'm finding each store is a little different. Some adhere to a strict "3 doubles per DAY" rule, while other stores are more relaxed and will allow you to do 3 transactions back to back. I understand that Utah county seems to be very strict! If you're new to using doubles, I recommend asking someone at Customer Service what their individual store policy is.
A few tips on using doubles:
* To get the most leverage, try to double only $1 coupons. Usually if I have several coupons in 1 transaction, the checker will automatically double my 3 highest value coupons. Since we've had doubles for months now, I find the checkers are pretty versed in using them and I rarely have to specify which coupon I want doubled.
* Be organized. Have all your coupons ready when checking out. Remember to plan for overages! Albertson's will not pay you to walk away with your groceries! I usually grab a cold drink or pack of gum if this happens.
* Do your shopping early morning or later at night, when the store is least busy.
* A double coupon is a store coupon. Since you can't use 2 store coupons on 1 item, you cannot use a double on another store coupon.

Freggie Drink
My sister-in-laws and their families have been drinking a fruit and vegetable drink you blend up that they call freggies. I was told that you get your days fruits and vegetable in this drink and when my brother-in-law said he has more energy the days that he drinks a freggieI wanted to know the recipe.
I have been drinking them every morning for over a week. I will warn you that it is green and my kids have a problem with that fact. My sons are big babies and won't drink it. My youngest daughter has drank several although she doesn't love it but I know she will benefit from drinking it. The first time I drank one I could taste the greens in it but now my husband and I enjoy it and mostly taste the fruits in the drink. I at least know that I have made a good food choice first thing in the morning.
Here is the recipe:
an apple
a banana
an orange
handful of baby spinach
handful of kale
handful of collard greens
6 frozen strawberries
Mix the first three ingredients together with some water then add the remaining ingredients until smooth. Note: I use 1/2 c water and then I add some ice cubes. I have found that it's a bit thinner and colder which makes it easier to drink for me.
I went to the store yesterday to buy more apples, oranges, bananas, kale, & collard for this drink. I spent $14.38. That pointed out to me what a good deal the Bountiful Baskets are! I'm looking forward to that pick up on Saturday.

Another Deal on Prescription Glasses
Thanks, The Good Deal Gal for this one.
$39 Dollar Prescription Glasses Plus $20 off right now!!
I was just talking to some mom friends about the price of eyeglasses! One friend had to pay over $150 just for the frames for her daughter -- not to mention the lenses, eye exam, etc.
I have heard great things about 39DollarGlasses.com and, although I have never ordered from them, I will be using them when I order my new night-time driving glasses.
This week (until Friday, July 24th 2009), 39DollarGlasses.com is giving you $20 off with coupon code 20bucksoff! (Shipping starts at $4.95)
Sounds like a great alternative to buying them at the eye doc! And, especially if you are buying them for kids, it may be handy to have an extra pair or two on hand.
I'm one of "those" who likes to see them on my face... so I thought that would be a turn-off for me, but they have a tool where you can choose your face shape to get a feel for what they would look like on your face.

What's happening with the Red Plum?
I have put off posting anything about the Red Plum Coupons being pulled from our newspapers because it is a big company and they have already made their decision about how they will be distributing their coupons so what good would it do to ask them to reconsider? I found this posting on Utah Deal Diva and found it to be a good article to share. When I put in my address I was informed that they would not be sending me the coupons. It did link me to their coupon printing site and I will follow the advice in the following article in hopes that they will send me a set coupons through the mail.
You might have heard by now that the Red Plum coupon inserts will no longer be included in the Sunday newspapers for the Deseret Morning News and Salt Lake Tribune. They say coupons will now be delivered in the mail on Tuesdays or Wednesdays instead. They've been doing this in cities all over the U.S. in an effort to expand their readership and help their ailing company survive.
I just received this email:
New, Starting the Week of July 26th
If you’re in the habit of looking in the newspaper for your RedPlum Coupon Book and it’s not there next weekend, don’t fret. It may be coming in the mail on Tuesday or Wednesday instead. We’re actually trying to get coupons and offers in more hands than ever, and in some areas, that means delivery by mail instead of the newspaper.
The reason why I haven't posted about this until now is because I was simply unsure as to how I felt about it. The company is struggling- it seems like a logical step to make any effort to expand readership. In this economy, I applaud Valassis for making taking steps to stay alive!
Yes, I do receive multiple papers, and yes I am sad that I won't have access to the Red Plum inserts every Sunday morning. However, I am also a huge fan of not spending money to save money. The thought of getting coupons delivered to my mailbox each week for free is pretty appealing to me.
So go and make friends with your non-couponing neighbors and see if you can snag some extra copies of the new "junk mail" that will begin coming each week. Talk to your mail delivery person and see if he or she has any copies. Get creative!
You can go here to see if your Red Plum will be coming via Sunday newspaper or by mail each week. Some of us here in Utah will get this message when you enter in your address:
Unfortunately, the RedPlum Coupon Book is not currently available in your area.
If you get this message, there is hope! Email your name and address to:
imwadrequest@supervalu.com
You'll be placed on a VIP list and will get your coupons until your area is included in the weekly circular.
